Boston & Cape Cod

The morning after our car accident we drove the rest of the way from Hartford to Boston to FINALLY start our trip! First thing we did was head over to the Boston Temple, which was beautiful! It was really nice to get to go to the temple, since we don't get to go nearly as often now that we live so much further from one, so we seem to appreciate going more. And it was really nice to go in and get to sit and reflect on everything, especially after the accident (even though we were so sore and I couldn't turn my head to see anything!)

After the temple we headed out to explore the Boston area in the car and saw a bunch of the different college campuses, of which there are tons! While driving around we found a Target where we finally got a bottle of Ibuprofen. YEAH! That made us both very happy, so pretty much everything after that was better. We ate a late lunch before checking into our hotel, which we really loved! We stayed at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, and it was beautiful! Apparently they filmed the movie "Bridal Wars" there (with Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway...which we've never seen, but need to now), and we got a nice little tour from the lady at the front desk of some of the areas and ballrooms that were used in the film and were absolutely amazing! Here are a few pictures of us in the lobby outside and one of the ballrooms.

Milt next to the amazing floral arrangements that you can't really see in this picture (sorry!)

Me sitting in the hallway between the two ballrooms (so pretty!)

Both of us in one of the ballrooms used in the movie

The hotel had these super long hallways that wound around to get to the rooms-- it totally reminded us of Tower of Terror at Disney-- it was a little bit eerie!

So, you can tell that we loved the hotel. But to tell the truth, we were just so happy to actually get there and feel like we finally made it to our destination that we thought about just sitting around the room and resting, but since we had a lost a whole day of our Boston stay we headed out to see downtown Boston (right as the BYU-OKLAHOMA game was about to begin...Milt really must love me!) Luckily for Milt, I was in so much pain after walking for a couple hours that we ended up coming back to the room in time for him to catch the second half of the game, which the hotel even had in HD. He was very happy, and was hooting and hollering loud enough that we probably had some very unhappy people in neighboring rooms (wondering what on earth was going on with us!)

Here are some pictures from Downtown Boston and walking the Freedom Line. We definitely saw some "must-see" places and ate at some "must-eats!"

Me in front of Cheers, which we walked by all the time
Milt at the site of the Battle of Bunker Hill and monument
Me in Copley Square, across from our hotel
This area was the site of the Boston Massacre and also a gathering place for the people before the Boston Tea Party
Milt in front of the Old State House, where the Declaration of Independence was read to the people from the balcony on the east side there
And of course, we HAD to try a Cannoli from Mike's Pastry (which is apparently the Cafe Rio of Cannoli places...if you walk around with one of the white Mike's pastry boxes, people's eyes follow the box)...YUM!
After a little more sightseeing in Boston the next morning, we headed to Cape Cod for the last few days of our trip. We got there and checked into our room, which was in one of the resorts' Beach Villas and overlooked the ocean and beach below....it was amazing! I just wanted to sit on our deck all day, but we decided to venture into the village Main Street and go to the little shops before dinner. If anyone ever wants to go to Cape Cod and stay at an amazing place, the resort was the Chatham Bars Inn (pronounced "Chattam Bahs Inn") and we could go back there every anniversary and be completely happy! The little village there in Chatham was absolutely perfect and it was so much fun to just walk along the shops together with absolutely nothing and nowhere else we had to be....which felt like a true vacation!

This is the beach villa that our room was in

Me down on the beach at around dinnertime...it got mighty chilly in the evenings!

Milt didn't think it was quite as cold though. Here he is looking for the "perfect" shells for the kids
The next day we were planning to take the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket since we were so close (catching the ferry involved driving 30 minutes to/from the ferry, waiting, walking, bus schedules, etc), so we decided to just take it easy and stay at the resort to relax for the day instead, which was such a good decision! The pool area was right down on the water so you could see out into the ocean, so we sat and read and then headed down to the beach for more relaxing and seal watching (and listening...they are noisy little guys!) But it was so relaxing and wonderful to just sit and enjoy the beauty of the area. Ahhh. We keep wondering when we can go back!

They put this sign up (about avoiding the seals because there had been shark sightings) the SECOND day we were there. I wonder what we missed the first day!

Milt looking for more shells, and you can see the villa we stayed in if you look up along the beach

And here's the pool that sits right next to the ocean. It was so fun, but it made us wish we had brought the kids...for about a minute or two. Then we got over it and let the thought pass.

So we had a wonderful time, even while ache-y from the car accident! And it was fun to come home to the kids, who somehow managed to get even LOUDER in our absence. It's a good thing we like them so much! Thanks again to Milt's mom for flying out to watch them for us. The kids had a fun time while we were gone too!

Looks like you two had a wonderful time, despite the car accident. I love new England.

I don't want to be dramatic...but I'M SO JEALOUS I COULD CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP TO NIGHT. Wow...what a trip. I don't blame you for missing the kids for a whole 2 seconds and then getting back into the spirit of just being together. I bet it was fantastic. *sigh*

I'm so glad you had a good time.
